10th Letter

based on a Hebrew video by Oren Evron here  (with permission)
The 10th Letter in the Torah is א and appears at the head of G-d's Name: א-להים

ץראהתאוםימשהתאםיהל-אארבתישארב

Genesis 1:1
בְּרֵאשִׁ֖יתבָּרָ֣אאֱ-לֹהִ֑יםאֵ֥תהַשָּׁמַ֖יִםוְאֵ֥תהָאָֽרֶץ
91320386401395407296

א-להים is the first word in the Torah where the letter א appears at the head of the word.

Thus, there is a special connection between א and א-להים (the first time a letter appears in the Torah as head of a word teaches on a special connection between that letter and that word. This is so for all the Hebrew letters in the Torah).

Aleph consists of two Yuds and a Vuv.
This adds up to: 10 (י) + 10 (י) + 6 (ו) = 26

26 is the Gematria of G-d's Primary Name - the Tetragramaton:

הוהי
56510
=26

Thus there is a connection between א-להים and י-הוה through the letter Aleph (א).

Note that G-d's primary Name י-הוהdoes not appear in Genesis 1:1 nor does it appear in any of the 31 verses of Genesis chapter 1.

The Kabalistic explanation is to read the verse: "Beresheit created Elokim", i.e. Beresheit, i.e. G-d created this order called by the Name "Elokim"[1] - which means "Baal Hakochot Kulam" (Master of all powers). Through this "order", which we call the "laws of nature", He created the universe and sustains it every second.

Interestingly:
א-להים=86
הטבע
(nature)
=86

Thus, the Name Elokim (א-להים) represents the Master of all powers. G-d is behind all powers in the world and all the laws of nature. Elokim rules over nature with the infinite precision of mathematics. The world "Elokim" comes from "E-l" and "Hem" which means "G-d" of "them", i.e. all the powers (Ramban).

This is the intent one should have when reciting this Holy Name as brought in the Shulchan Aruch (Code of Jewish Law) - Elokim = "Baal Hakochot Kulam" (the Master of all powers)

The Hebrew word for "Power" כח = 28 and this is the secret of the 28 letters in the Hebrew alphabet which represent all the powers (for the creation was "spoken" into existence by G-d through the Hebrew letters. This is also the secret of the 28 letters in Gen.1:1).

The Hebrew alphabet consists of 22 letters and 5 end letters.

102030405060708090
קרשתךםןףץ
100200300400500600700800900
א = 1000
(Aleph Rabati = 28th letter)

To complete the circle to 1000, the first letter Aleph אָלֶף can act as either 1 (Aleph) or as 1000 (Aleph Rabati - large Aleph) - the sublime 28th letter - the First like the Last, just like G-d who is "First and Last" (Isaiah 44:6).
(thus Aleph is the smallest value "1" and also the highest value "1000". As we know, the "sum of thousands" is a very important feature of the mathematical encryption of Torah)

Interestingly, by changing vowels, Aleph אָלֶף also spells Eleph אֶלֶף which means 1000 in Hebrew.

Thus, the full circle of Hebrew letters comprises 27+1 letters, like the Gematria of כח (Koach=power).
(indeed, the entire creation is called "The power of His works - Koach Maasiv.." Tehilim 111:6 as brought in Rashi on Genesis 1:1 and Siftei Chachamim. The hidden meaning is the 28 letters).

And in Isaiah 44:6
Thus says י-הוה, the King and Redeemer of Israel, the L-ORD of Hosts: "I am the first and I am the last, and there is no אֱ-לֹהִ֑ים but Me" - Isaiah 44:6
As we saw previously, there is a connection between אֱ-לֹהִ֑ים and י-הוהthrough the א which adds up to 26.

Interestingly, THE 26TH LETTER in Genesis 1:1 is also א
ץראהתאוםימשהתאםיהל-אארבתישארב
28272625  242322  2120191817  1615  1413121110  987  654321

Let us look at the other appearances of א in Genesis 1:1

We see the letter א appears exactly 6 times (interestingly, according to the Baal HaTurim, the 6 Alephs hint to the 6000 years of the Jewish calendar, the maximum time before the Messianic era).

ץראהתאוםימשהתאםיהל-אארבתישארב
28272625  242322  2120191817  1615  1413121110  987  654321

ADDING THE 6 POSITIONS OF א in Genesis 1:1 gives:

26 + 23 + 15 + 10 + 9 + 3
= 86 = the Gematria of א-להים
(interestingly, the 86th letter is the Aleph of Elokim in the first statement: "and Elokim said: 'Let there be light'"Gen.1:3)

Image of G-d

The Torah teaches that man was created in the "Tzelem Elokim" (image of G-d). This means G-d has granted man vast divine powers - just like Elokim, as explained in the book Nefesh HaChaim 1:13.

These powers are primarily through Torah study as explained there and many other places. Through Torah study man draws down divine energy which sustains the entire creation.

The gematria of Genesis is 2701 = 37×73

Both 37 and 73 are Gematrias of חכמהChochma = wisdom

חכמה means כח-מה , i.e. the power of man (Tikunei Zohar, Hakdama).

מה = 45 = אדם (Adam).

By learning the wisdom of Torah, man sustains the creation and becomes like G-d.

Letter Expansion of חכמה (wisdom)
המכח
יםףי
ת
1580100418
Total=613

Thus, true wisdom refers to a man who strives his best to study and fulfill all the 613 commandments of the Torah. For one who connects to true wisdom will WANT and desire to follow the 613 laws.

If we focus only on the hidden letters of חכמה (wisdom) according to the secret of the end letters, like one who seeks to know the inner secret of wisdom:

Hidden Letters of חכמה (wisdom)
(full gematria of end letters)
המכח
יםףי
ת
1060080010+400
Total=1820

1820 is the gematria of 70×26 = סוד י-הוה (the secret of G-d)

This refers to a person who goes beyond the superficial and strives to know the Sod (secret), i.e. deeper meaning in the Torah.

And in the Talmud (Shabbat 88b): "The Torah is a double edged sword. For those who veer to the right side, it is an elixir of life..." Rashi: "to toil with all of your strength to understand it's 'sod' (inner meaning)"[4].

1820 is also an amazing signature of G-d in the Torah as we saw previously.

The letter "Aleph" is also associated with "wisdom" as the verse וַֽאֲאַלֶּפְךָ֥ חָכְמָֽה(Job 33:33). Interestingly, when the torah speaks of the dulling effects of eating non-kosher foods, it says וְנִטְמֵתֶ֖ם בָּֽם without the Aleph. The Talmud (Yoma 39a) says this refers to a losing of one's wisdom, a hint that wisdom comes from the Aleph. This matter is extremely deep (heard from R.Shlomo Yehudah, haYenukah)[2].

Torah - 50 Skip Letters Pattern

The Midrash (Genesis Rabbah 1:1) opens saying G-d first created the Torah and then "gazed into it to create the world". So too, when man gazes into the Torah, he creates supernal forces like Elokim. And in Genesis 3:5 "you will be like Elokim, knowing good and evil", Rashi there brings the Midrash: "Like Elokim - creating worlds".

As known, the Torah was given in the holiday of Shavuot after a 50 day counting of the Omer.

"You shall count until the day after the seventh week, [namely,] the fiftieth day" (Vayikra/Leviticu 23:16)

Amazingly, if we count the 50th letter from the ת in בראשית, we get a ו (vuv).

If we continue to count every 50th letter, we get the word תורה.

Amazingly, this exact same pattern occurs if we count every 50th letter starting from the first ת in the book of Exodus/Shemot, the book recording the giving of the Torah to the Jewish people.

Interestingly, the Lifnei (previous letter) transformation of בראשית has Gematria of 611 (same Gematria as "Torah") as we saw in the "Pi and Genesis" section.

The 2nd Lifnei of בראשית which digs to the root has Gematria of 400 just like the letter ת.

Yisrael

Our sages teach the world was created for Yisrael. For only they would accept on themselves to fulfill the 613 commandments in G-d's Torah.

Interestingly, on the Torah's account of the 7th day of creation, i.e. the Sabbath (end of Genesis 1) which is recited on the friday night Kiddush, the world "Yisrael" is encoded in a 7 letter skip.

The same opening words also have G-d's Name encoded in Roshei Teivot (first letters).

1820 Letter Skip
Another interesting skip discovered by Matityahu Glazerson[3]:
In the final "yud" of the verse: "you shall guard the Sabbath for it is holy..."(Ex.31:14), an 1820 letter skip gives (1820 is a very special number associated with holiness):
יום שבת תשמור (you shall guard the Sabbath)
And just below there on the Yud of G-d's Name:
כל מצות י-הוה (all the commandments of G-d).
This highlights the Talmudic teaching that the Sabbath is equal to all the commandments.

These skip-letter "torah codes" are a huge field. Sometimes it seems even major current events are encoded. For example, a search for "Bin Laden" reveals a massive 29 letter sequence:

and just below that: "the murderer shall be killed":

A search for the "twin towers" reveals the Hebrew date, 23 Elul, and below: "on that day about 3000 people died (literally:fell)"
(notice the extremely unusual word for died "vayipol" which means "fell")
There definitely appears to be an intentionally encoded message hidden in the Torah. Yet, we cannot use it to predict future events or the like. We cannot say anything other than that the Torah was clearly written by G-d.

Yud and Elokim

The Name of G-d that corresponds to "wisdom" (chochmah) is the Name "Elokim". The judgment and Judge of Heavens and Earth, the Controller and Creator of all math and accurate logic, matter, energy, laws of physics, etc., it is all under "Wisdom" of the Name "Elokim".

As we saw previously, the Hebrew letter which corresponds to "Wisdom" is the letter "Yud". The "Yud" of "Elokim" is also the center letter in the triangle formation of the 28 letters of Genesis 1:1.

Some interesting facts:
  • The Gematria of Genesis 1:1 = 2701 = 37×73
The Triangle Gematria of Yud (1+2+3..+10):
    י = 55 = exact midpoint between 37 and 73

  • The Triangle Gematria of Yud spelled out:
    יוד = 10+21+55 = 86 = Gematria of Elokim.
    i.e. (1+2+3+4) + (1+2+3+4+5+6) + (1+2+3..+10) = 86

  • The Triangle Gematria[5] of "Elokim" = 1201
1201 is the location of the central point of 2701 in a formation of a Triangle of 73 - counting from any of the corners towards the central location!!

  • The Triangle Gematria of G-d's Name - "E-l" (Aleph-Lamed) = 401 - same as the center word of Genesis 1:1

  • 1201 is the 45th SUPER-PRIME (1201 is the 197th prime and 197 is the 45th prime). This hints that man was given divine powers like Elokim and is the center of creation.

  • [2] And in the Ramchal's "Path of the Just" ch.11: This is because the forbidden foods bring in Tuma (spiritual contamination) in a person's heart and soul so that the holiness of G-d, blessed be He, departs and withdraws from him. This is also what they stated (Yoma 39a): "'becoming defiled with them' (Vayikra 11:43) - read not ve-nitmetem (that you will be defiled), but ve-nitamtem (that you will become dull-hearted)". For sin dulls a man's heart, causing to depart from him true knowledge and the spirit of wisdom which the Holy One, blessed be He, bestows to the pious, as written "for G-d grants wisdom" (Mishlei 2:6). Thus he is left animal-like and material, sunk in the coarseness of this world. End quote. Regarding the Yenukah on Aleph see the lecture הינוקא הרב שלמה יהודה - 'אאלפך חכמה' - תיקון הבריאה באותיות התורהavailable online.

  • [4] 1820=70×26 and as we saw earlier 70 is also the gematria of the letter "Ayin" which means "eye" in Hebrew. For true inner wisdom is connected with seeing of the mind's eye as brought in Likutei Sichot, Balak 5725:
The [initial] point of intellect (nekudat hasechel) is the level of wisdom - but this is only the external of wisdom. For after it (the wisdom) is drawn out and expanded in the grasping of Binah (understanding) and one toils more and delves deeper and ponders in the intellect more and more - then he reaches the inner side of wisdom. This is the matter of the "seeing of wisdom". Namely, it becomes to him "truth of the intellect" (hitamtut hasechel) just like actually seeing something (with his own eyes).. This verifying the truth to its utmost depth is called "seeing [of the mind]".. (hitamtut hachi amuka shenikret bshem re'iyah) end quote.
These two "Chochma" (wisdom) and "Binah" (understanding) are the two higher Sefirot which combine to produce "Daat" true inner knowledge. Interestingly, "Chochma" חכמה (ordinal) = 37 and "VeBinah" ובינה (standard) = 73. There is much to discuss on this.

  • [5] it is actually the Triangle of Triangle Gematria. so you take אלהי-ם להים הים ים ם and calculate the Triangle Gematria which, for each letter, adds the value of all preceding letters. Interestingly, the Mispar Ne'elam = 441 (Truth).
Likewise for E-l, it is the triangle of triangle Gematria. so you take: א
    אבגדהוזחטיכל
and calculate the Triangle Gematria of that = 401

As before, the Gematria of Genesis 1:1 is 2701

Total=2701

Genesis 1:1 was the first statement of the Creator and thus it contains all of creation as a seed of everything. This seed is also embodied numerically in the number 2701.

Our sages teach the purpose of creation is Free Will. A little thought will show everything in nature is built around this concept.

Interestingly, the Hebrew term for free will is:

בחירה חופשית = 2701 (expanded Gematria[1])

For Genesis 1:1 is a kind of seed and summary of the entire creation and its purpose. According to the Vilna Gaon: "the first verse in the Torah contains all the details of Creation" (Vilna Gaon on Tikunei Zohar 200:32)

Love

Another central concept of creation is the idea of love. In the Tikunei Zohar (Hakdama 10b):"Beresheit is אהבה(love) and has small gematria of 13 like the Gematria of אהבה (love).."[3]

For the creation is about man's relationship with G-d as a son to his Father, as the Shemah opens "You shall love the L-ord your G-d with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might" (Deut.6:5). And in the Talmud "G-d wants the Heart"(Sanhedrin 106b)[4]

G-d's Name=י-הוה=26
Man=אדם=45
262 + 452 = 2701

The creation is likewise about love between man and his fellow as our sages taught: "'love your fellow as yourself' (Lev.19:18) - this is the general principal of the Torah" (Yerushalmi Nedarim 9:4).

26 = 13 × 2 (for when there is love between two people, G-d is there)

Interestingly, the two triangle Gematrias (Meshulash Milah) of אהבה (love) are:
א=1
א ה=6
א ה ב=8
א ה ב ה=13
Total = 28

ה=5
ב ה=7
ה ב ה=12
א ה ב ה=13
Total = 37

These two numbers: 37 and 28 (and their mirror reflections) play a central role in the Genesis 1:1 numeric structure as we have seen. Likewise, for triangular numbers and figurates.

(notice also the 10th Star of David (Yisrael=541) is made by merging two 28th Triangles to form a Star of David with 37 rows (see picture on right); as we have seen many times Yisrael is deeply connected to Genesis 1:1)

I also heard (from Oren Evron) that there is another important connection to be made here:
The center point of 2701 is 1351 and it's center, which is the ultimate center = 676

Center Point
1351 is the exact center point of 2701

1--------------------2701

1351

(i.e. for 2701 dots side by side, the middle dot is the 1351th)

Center Point
676 is the exact center point of 1351

1--------------------1351

676

(676 is the final center point, since only odd numbers have center points)

As before, 262 (676) + 452 = 2701, where 45 is the Miluy Alfin (expanded Gematria) of Havaia (י-הוה).

In any case, 676 is connected to 2701 very very deeply. 676=262 is the ultimate Center point of 2701, it is what gives life/energy to the entire universe. Everything is around G-d, like the center point of a circle, that is amazing and deeeep!
(this is actually the meditation of the Shemah (Hear O Israel..) which is the creation of the world all over again. Because we are to understand there is NOTHING except for Hash-em, unite Elokim with Havaia means, not only to understand there is one Hash-em, but that Hash-em is itself ONE. This provides the ultimate "big bang" if done properly - Oren Evron)

28 and 37 are connected geometrically as we showed. Their connection is also shown by adding them together:
28 + 37 = 65 - the Gematria of A-donai, which is how we pronounce Havaia (י-הוה).

Notice also, the primary Numeric split is 703/1998

Primary Split in Verse
בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א אֱ-לֹהִ֑ים אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִםוְאֵ֥ת הָאָֽרֶץ
1998
=37×54
703
=37×19
Total=2701
=37×73

703=37×19- Mirror of 19 = 91 G-d's Name (Havaia/A-donai)
1998=37×54- Mirror of 54 = 45 Adam

2701 is also built around the Gematrias of "wisdom". For the purpose of creation is to illuminate man with the divine wisdom of the Torah as Master Kabalist, Rabbi Chaim Vital wrote:
"And not only that but man was created only to delve into the depths of the Torah. But this requires that his body (and lower soul) be clean first, through the action of the mitzvot (Torah commandments) whose entire purpose is for this and are therefore necessary. Then the neshama (higher soul) which is called the 'candle of G-d' (Proverbs 20:27), will be capable of illuminating this body, like a candle inside a glass container, which shines through, and it gives him the power to understand secrets of the torah and it reveals depths from within the darkness" (Etz Chaim, Hakdama daf 13).

And in "the Way of G-d" (4:2):
Among all the influences that G-d causes to emanate from Him for the sake of His creations, there is one which is higher than all the others, being more important and lofty than anything else G-d created. This influence is the closest thing to G-d Himself that can be found in creation, its loftiness and excellence resembling G-d's own to some degree.. This influence was bound to the Torah... in such a way that when man actually pronounces the words of torah, the influence is transmitted to him... Because of this fact, it is imperative that one should have reverence and awe when involved in the Torah. What one is then doing is approaching His G-d and involving himself in the transmission of the great Light from G-d to himself. The individual involved in the Torah should therefore be abashed by his human lowliness and tremble before G-d's loftiness. He should rejoice in what he can attain, but even this should be combined with the greatest possible awe... If this condition is not met, however, then it will not result in any such Illumination, and reciting words of the torah will be no different from any other human speech... The value of a person's study, and the level of the resulting Influence, therefore vary according to the degree of his reverence and the measure of his respect and attentiveness. (Feldheim translation)
Interestingly according to the Zohar, the Hebrew word "חכמה" (wisdom) means "כח-מה" (Koach-Mah). Koachmeans "power/potential" and Mahmeans "what".

According to R.Moshe Shapiro (Tehilah LeMoshe biur agadot chazal, pg.227):
"The Hebrew word "Mah" refers to wisdom. For wisdom spells "Koach-Mah". For all the wisdom of creation is found in potential (Koach) in the roots of the creation and it needs to be revealed. Who is supposed to reveal this "Mah" (wisdom)? This is man and thus "Adam" has gematriah "Mah". end quote..
Thus, central to the magnificent creation is the most remarkable work and power, the human mind, the very "eye" that beholds G-d's beautiful handiwork. Man's job is to investigate and reveal the divine wisdom hidden in nature and in the torah.

It is a remarkable fact that the universe works with the same logic that is hardwired into man's brain. It is due to this, that we are able to discover a fundamental axiom of nature or that we can conceive a formula describing how an electron works. But "wisdom" is called "Mah" (what). For we know it exists, but we don't what it is. It is intangible, like a point. This is where the scientists get confused. Thus they reveal marvelous wisdom in nature but they look for ways to claim it is not wisdom. This is because Free will is stronger than truth - indeed that's the idea of free will: the ability to deny truth.

Note that Torah study also has a secret in that it brings to fear/awareness of G-d, as written "the beginning of wisdom is the fear of G-d (Yirat Hash-em)" (Proverbs 9:10), Yirat=611 Gematria (=Torah). On this Rabeinu Yerucham writes (Daat Torah chelek beit, pg.231):
And the root of the word "fear" (Yirah) is from the word "seeing" (re'eh, same letters). For the entire matter of fear comes from one seeing G-d, blessed be He. For when one sees the Creator, blessed be He, automatically, he fears before Him. The secret of the whole torah is that through it the Holy One, blessed be He, immediately appears before Him. For the torah is called the "garment" (levusho) of the Holy One, blessed be He. In every letter and every tiny crown of the torah, G-d's existence is interwoven - "the Torah and the Holy One, blessed be He, are one" (oreita v'kudsha berich Hu chad hu) - inseparably. Thus, perforce "if there is no wisdom, there is no fear" (Avot 3:20)

Notice also in the 28 letter Triangle of Genesis 1:1, the inner yellow Triangle which surrounds the "Yud"(=wisdom) spells יראה השמים (fear of Heaven) (discovered by Oren Evron). For true wisdom is a revelation of knowledge of G-d (Torah) and when one has a revelation of divine wisdom, perforce there comes fear and awe since it is impossible to see G-d and not feel fear/awe. And even when one studies mundane laws of the Torah, an ox gores a cow, etc. but nevertheless, they are revelations of G-d's wisdom and will in our world. For the Torah is all awesome divine Names and attributes of G-d. Just that when it descends down to our physical world, His will manifests as laws relevant to our world such as don't steal, don't damage, etc. etc.

Fear/awareness of G-d needs to be on a person all the time, as king David said: "I have placed G-d before me constantly; because [He is] at my right hand, I will not falter" (Psalms 16:8). It needs to be like one's "right hand man" which one does not forget. Likewise, in the mishna in Pirkei Avot (1:3) "and may the fear of Heaven be upon you" the Ben Ish Chai explains:
"Some conduct themselves in fear of Heaven in the manner of a man with his wallet of money. It is hidden away in his pocket and he does not see it every second. Only when he needs to purchase an object or purchase food from the shop. But after purchasing the thing he becomes obligated to pay and the seller claims from him the money, he then takes out the wallet from his pocket and uses it to pay his debt.

So too here. The man does not remember his fear of Heaven always and he does not place it before his eyes. Only after he transgressed and stumbled in a sin, the fear rouses in his heart. For he is worried perhaps he will be punished. Then he does teshuva (repentance) on his sin. This is not the way "to the abode of light" (Job 38:19). Rather, the fear needs to be placed upon him, like a garment that he wears on his body. Every second he sees it and does not forget it momentarily (mesiach daat).

On this [fear] Rebbi Meir says in the Beraitha of Avot regarding learning torah lishma: "it clothes him with humility and fear", through this: "it makes him fit to be righteous, pious, upright and faithful". On this it is written: "I put on righteousness and it clothed me" (Job 29:14). For fear is termed with the name "tzedek" (righteousness) as known. This is what he said here specifically: "and may the fear of Heaven be upon you". That it be visible to your eyes like a garment over you. Not like a wallet of money hidden in your pocket which you do not see, except when you need to pay to your debtors. end quote (Chasdei Avot 1:3)
Going back to the 28 letter triangle of Genesis 1:1 - we saw that the inner triangle spells יראה השמים (fear of Heaven). Notice exactly to the RIGHT of that is the Hebrew word: תלבש ("you shall wear") in future tense. This indicates what we said, that fear of Heaven needs to be worn like a garment and be at one's right side always. Only then will one reach "the abode of light" and attain true wisdom and holiness.

Tree of Life

Here is an illuminating excerpt from "Derech Etz Chaim" by the Master Kabalist, Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzato which sheds light on many things we have discussed in this series:

The Creator of man, and his guide, made him and established him ready to understand and to comprehend greater comprehension than the ministering angels. And our Sages have already said (Midrash Genesis Raba 17):"He (G-d) said to them (the angels): 'his wisdom is greater than yours'." And when man desires understanding in G-d's way, G-d will guide him to fathom until the heaven of heavens - things which stand in the loftiest heights of the worlds.

But, behold, the good is in his hands and he has the power to choose - to become wise and to know, or to remain naked of all wisdom, even though the heart and the intellect are within his body. And this you will see, that there are two things which were created with one likeness - the intellect of man and the Torah which gives him understanding. On the Torah it is written "Is not My word like fire? says the L-ORD; and like a hammer that smashes the rock in pieces?" (Yirmiyahu 23:29). With this, He has revealed to us that it is the truth of the matter that the Torah is literally a light that was given to Yisrael (the Jewish people) to enlighten in it.

Because it is not like the wisdom of the nations and the secular knowledge, which are nothing more than knowledge which the intellect grasps after toiling (to understand it). Rather, the Torah, behold, it is holy. It has a supernal existence in the upper spheres. And when a man toils in it below, it is a light which illuminates in his soul to elevate it to the treasures on high, the treasures of the Creator, blessed be He. And this is what the wise man said (King Solomon) "And Torah is light" (Mishlei 6:23), literally light, and not just wisdom. And not that it is called "light" as a kind of metaphor rather it is literally "light". Because this is its existence above (in the higher worlds), and when it enters the soul, the light enters it just like the sun's rays enter inside a house.

Behold with great precision it (the Torah) was compared to fire and with precise choice of word. Because when you see an ember which does not flame, and the energy of the flame is inside, hidden and concealed, until one blows on it, then the flame spreads out and goes forth, and in that flame is visible many colors, what was not previously visible in the ember, and everything came out from the ember. So too, the Torah which is in front of us, because all of its words and letters are like embers, which when you ignite them look the same. One sees only embers which are also almost dim. And he who exerts himself to toil in it, then it will flame from every letter a mighty flame full of many colors, which are the knowledge which are hidden inside that letter.

This has already been explained in the Zohar on the Alef-Beit, and the matter is not an analogy, rather it is itself actual and completely literal. Because all the (22) letters that we see in the Torah, all of them teach on the 22 lights which exist on high. And these supernal lights, shine on the letters. And from them comes the holiness of the Torah, the holiness of the sefer Torah, Tefilin (philacteries), and Mezuzot, and all the holy writings. And according to the holiness in which they were written, so too will be the resting and shining of these lights on the letters. Therefore the sefer Torah which has one invalid matter (pasul), becomes entirely invalid because the lights cannot remain in it properly, that it should pull down the holiness to the congregation with the power of the reading of it.

Returning to the matter, the lights which stand on the letters contain all the levels and sub-levels which are in each letter. However, it doesn't reach the soul of the one who sees the letters except a small, concealed light, like an ember. But when the man exerts himself to understand, and he reads, and re-reads, and strengthens himself to understand, behold, the lights ignite and go out like the flame from an ember. And on this the Tana (Mishnaic Sage) said "Turn it and turn it again, for everything is in it" (Avot 5:21). Because the one who toils needs to turn it over again and again until it flames exactly like the actions for [physical] fire.

And behold when the flame ignites, I've already mentioned that there are in it (in fire) many colors and forms, and likewise there are found many great matters in the flames of that fire. However there is another matter that we find, namely that there are many sides (facets, levels of understanding) to the Torah. And the early ones already received (from Sinai) that for each root of the souls of Israel they are in the entire Torah, therefore there are 600,000 explanations of the Torah (corresponding to the 600,000 root souls). And this is what is meant by the Torah "splits to many sparks", because at first it flames and then all the lights in it become visible on that matter. And those lights, themselves, enlighten to 600,000 ways in the 600,000 (souls) of Israel. And this is the secret meaning of "Is not My word like as fire? says the L-ORD; and like a hammer that smashes the rock in pieces?" (Yirmiya/Jeremiah 23:29)

It comes out from this, that even though the Torah is endless, and even each letter from it is like this, however one needs to ignite it, and then it flames. For this, the intellect of man was made. Because it also has the power of great attainment, but when it flames (the intellect of man) it is through the power of contemplation. And on this it is written "For the L-ORD gives wisdom, out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding" (Mishlei 2:6). Because all that exists from the word of the Holy One blessed be He, becomes existing (i.e. has an existence), because this "mouth" (of G-d) is the root of all creations, and this itself sustains their existence. And the "hevel" (lit. breath, or vapor which exudes from the mouth), which means the hashpaah (influence, energy) which goes out to all creations forms the source which took it out. And therefore it is written "that man does not live by bread only, but by every thing that goes out of the mouth of the L-ORD does man live" (Devarim 8:3), which is this hevel which goes out and sustains. And this (hevel) envelops and enclothes itself inside the edible foods to nourish a man.

Behold, the wisdom is already given from the Holy One blessed be He in the heart of every man. However, in order that it strengthens, it is necessary that this mouth (i.e. the mouth of G-d) that sustains its existence should blow with strength, and then it also becomes like fire, that when one blows in it, it flames. Likewise when this hashpaah (influence, energy) descends from the mouth like a breath, the wisdom flames and the knowledge and understanding which were inside it already (i.e. inside the intellect of man) become visible, just that they were not visible before. Because there was nothing visible before except the chachma which is the intellect itself, but the tevuna (understanding), which is the understanding of the intellect which joins things together (logically) , and upholds things together, and the (daas) knowledge which is the offspring (result) which comes out of this - and these won't do their work except through the power of the blowing of the breath which that supernal mouth blows on them. Therefore, we find, that the wisdom (chachma) is already given, and the mouth only sustains it, but the understanding (tevuna) and the knowledge (daas) they renew, which means their revelations are renewed all the time through the blowing of that mouth. And therefore Elihu said "But it is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty, that giveth them understanding" (Iyov/Job 32:8), which means the breath of the mouth, the breath of the Ruach (wind) and this is what gives a man understanding - and not days or years... end quote

Therefore it is a duty on a person to put himself to contemplate. Because if he does not contemplate and exert himself to think, behold, the wisdom will not come to seek him, and he will remain in darkness without knowledge, and he will go in the ways of vanity and obscurity and the end of the matter is that he will give judgment and accounting before the King of kings, the Holy One, blessed be He on that he did not use the wisdom (chachma) and the power which He implanted in him, [and instead] made it profane. This is certainly the temptation of the yetzer (evil inclination) which tries with all its might to make him fall in this world and the next, because he knows already that if he falls in this a little bit, it remains (difficult) for him to return and rebuild, because the knowledge of truth strengthens the soul and repulses the yetzer (evil inclination), and there is nothing that weakens the soul before the yetzer like lack of knowledge. And if the knowledge was wide and firmly standing in the hearts of men, they would never sin. The yetzer would not even be close to them and rule over them, just like he does not rule over the angels.

And being that the Holy One blessed be He wanted that man should have a yetzer, that he be capable to victorious or defeated with equal weight. Therefore He made in them the knowledge, but it is closed like an ember, although capable of exanding and flaming like a fire. And the free will is in man's hands. Our Sages of blessed memory said "and therefore those who rule over their yetzer say 'Come, let us make the calculation of [how to act in] this world'" because he who does not rule over his yetzer (evil inclination) he will not put this to himself ever. But those who rule over their yetzer, they do these things and teach it over to others so that they may do it themselves. Behold a man, most of his years are spent in thinking thoughts on his businesses, business of this temporary world. Why does he not put to heart even one hour also on thinking these other things - what is he? Why did he come to this world? Or what does the King of kings seek from him? What will be the end of his matter? This is the biggest and most powerful medicine that one can find against the yetzer. It is easy and its effects are great. Its fruit is many, in that a man should stand each day for at least an hour, free from all other thoughts, and to think only on this matter that I've said. And he should seek in his heart:
• what did the early ones, the fathers of the world, that G-d desired in them? What did Moshe Rabeinu do? What did David, the moshiach (chosen of) H-shem do? And all the gedolim (great men) who lived before us? And he should put to his mind:
• what is good for a man all the days of his life in order that he should also do the good. Then he should explore with his thoughts to know what is his situation that he is in and that he stands in relative to that which is wanted [by G-d], in the path which trod these men of G-d before him. (translator's note: these are things one must work out and verify on his own. It's not enough to read answers from a book. If a person does this truthfully, he will see how unclear he is about so many of these fundamental life-deciding issues).

And if not? And if the power of the yetzer is too strong and he cannot bring himself to judge due to its strength - behold for this Rabbi Shimon trembled and screamed like a crane in his book - "Voy to the men who G-d has abandoned in the exile - as in 'And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man' (Shmos/Exodus 2:12), rather each man turns to his ways, to his business, to his path."

The general principle: The man who does not think on this, it is very, very hard to reach the shlemus (wholeness), and the man who does think - he is very close to it. (the great men), they would not stray their minds from this, therefore they succeeded in all their actions, but at least one should do the minimum and fix times, to put to his heart whether a little or a lot - because then he will succeed in his ways and then he will understand... end quote. see there for more

As before Genesis 1:1 has Gematria of 2701 = 37×73
Both 37 and 73 are the Gematrias of "WISDOM".

True wisdom is connected to holiness.

The Torah commands (Lev.19:2): "you shall be holy" (קדשים תהיו)
= 3×7×73 (expanded gematria[6])

And in the Talmud:
"if the Rabbi appears like an angel of G-d (i.e. a holy man), seek Torah from his mouth, but if not - do not seek torah from his mouth" (Moed Katan 17a).

Interestingly, the Hebrew word "Chachmah" (wisdom) appears in FIRST LETTERS in the verse:

"and my master has wisdom like the wisdom of an angel
of G-d to know all that is on the earth" (Samuel II 14:20)
in the words "wisdom like the wisdom of an angel of G-d":
(wisdom) חכמה FIRST Letters:
For only when wisdom is accompanied with holiness is it true wisdom.

And in Duties of the Heart (Gate 3 chapter 9):
"The mystery of your being is that the Creator created you out of nothing... and His purpose is to exalt you and elevate you to the high degree of His treasured ones - the chosen and elect who are nearest to the light of His glory - for your good and as a kindness towards you. But you will only be worthy of this favor when three conditions have been fulfilled. The first is the removal of the curtain of folly from yourself so that He may enlighten you with the gift of His knowledge..." - Duties of the Heart, Gate 3 chapter 9
Man's job is to remove the Klipot (evil, foolishness) which blinds his eyes and then he will attain true wisdom and see G-d everywhere.

We have seen many hints of this concept previously:
  • the Genesis 1:1 triangle of 2701 dots (three 666 triangles and inner 703).
  • Bereisheit (913) is rendered "with wisdom (73)" and 913×73=66649, a hint to 666 and 72.
  • the holy Name Sh-adai which spells "Shin-Dalet" (demon) and "Yud" representing the inner divine spark.
  • 2701 is (270 = Gematria of "Evil" רע) and (1) which represents the inner divine spark.
  • 37 = wisdom and Hevel (divine breath). Hevel also means "vanity" as in the verse "Vanity of Vanities, all is vanity" (Ecclesiastes 1:2). For when wisdom is not accompanied with holiness, it turns to vanity and foolishness.
A person can be a brilliant scientist, an Einstein, yet he fails to see the obvious right in front of his eyes as brought in the book "Hapinkas of Rabbi Aharon Y.L. Shteinman" zt'l, pg.192
He spoke how the Yetzer Hara (evil inclination) blinds the eyes. For, in truth, the doctors should be the biggest believers (maaminim). How much wisdom is contained in the eye! Millions of cells and if G-d forbid, something is blocked - wonder of wonders, the brain, the eyes. They should be moved to believe in the Creator of the world. But we see it is exactly the opposite (b'diyuk hafuch). This does not interest them. For the Yetzer (evil inclination) is enormously powerful.

Let us now explore a bit the realm of the Evil Inclination. At the same time, this will give us a glimpse into the world of hints hidden in the first/last letters of the torah.

As before, the opening letter Beit is the 2nd letter and points to a duality in the creation - both good and evil were created in the world to provide room for man's free will.

Introduction to Samael

a glimpse into the realm of first/last letter skip codes

(note: one should never pronounce these names verbally. say instead just "Samech-Mem")

The Genesis creation account contains many fundamental lessons such as the existence of G-d, the existence of prophecy, centrality of man, free will, reward and punishment - all things every human being must know and recognize. The narrative there also teaches on the existence of the Evil Inclination (symbolized by the serpent) and how it tries to topple man through the woman (Sefer Ikarim)

Interestingly, the Hebrew word for the Yetzer (Evil Inclination) appears in END LETTERS on the verse:

"but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, G-d has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die'" (Genesis 3:3)
in the beginning of the verse:
(Yetzer/[evil] inclination) יצר END Letters:

The hint is wondrous. For the root of the Yetzer inside man stems from Adam's eating of the forbidden fruit of the "tree of knowledge". Its great temptation was chiefly in that it was forbidden, as in the verse:

"Stolen water becomes sweet.."
(Mishlei/Proverbs 9:17)
מַֽיִםגְּנוּבִ֥יםיִמְתָּ֑קוּ
םםו Last Letters:
Gematria=86=Elokim

Notice, the last letters has Gematria = 86 (Elokim). This hints that one should consider the end of the matter when tempted by the Yetzer on the illusionary sweetness of forbidden things, namely, the Judgment of Elokim (G-d).

The name of the Evil Inclination is "Samael" (Zohar, Tikun 21), aka the Satan, aka the "angel of death", aka the "master of the Sitra Achra" (forces of evil).

The name "Samael" (סמאל) comes from the Hebrew word סמא (blind, see Avodat Yisrael, Avot ch.3). For Samael's job is to BLIND the eyes of human beings, making evil appear good and vice versa, as the Ramchal writes:
"This true counsel could not have been given nor could its truth be recognized except by those who had already gone out of the hands of their evil inclination and ruled over it. For one who is still held captive in the prison of his evil inclination - his eyes do not see this truth, and he is incapable of recognizing it. For the evil inclination literally blinds his eyes. He is like one walking in darkness, where there are stumbling blocks before him but his eyes do not see them.." - Path of the Just ch.3
Samael's name appears in ONE UNIQUE INSTANCE in the entire Tanach (Bible) in Roshei Teivot (first letters).

In Isaiah 47:15 which speaks of the astrologers and sorcerers with whom the Israelites strayed after (as known, witchcraft and sorcery are from the powers of the Sitra Achra (forces of evil), the domain of Samael)

"those [astrologers and sorcerers] with whom you have labored, your traffickers from youth;
Each strays off to his own way. There is no one to save you" (Isaiah 47:15)
in the words "your traffickers from youth; Each strays off to his own way":
(Samael) סמאל FIRST Letters:
Thus, it was Samael, the evil inclination, who enticed the people to stray after the sorcerers and now "each strayed to his way.."

Samael appears in the "Roshei Teivot" (FIRST LETTERS). For he FIRST manifests as the evil inclination to entice people to stray after his evil advice making it appear good. He also makes people forget G-d and instead to seek the astrologers and sorcerers of his times.

The Angel of Death

After enticing people to evil, Samael prosecutes as the Satan and if given permission, he manifests as the angel of death (see Job ch.1, Pirkei D'Rebbi Eliezer ch.46) to slay the sinner.

Thus his name appears in the END LETTERS as the angel of death (since this happens AFTER the enticing stage).

Here too the name Samael appears in ONE UNIQUE INSTANCE in Sofei Teivot (end letters) in the entire Tanach (Bible).

In the book of Jeremiah:
"he shall strike them by the edge of the sword;
he shall not show them mercy, nor pity nor compassion" (Jeremiah 21:7)
Last Letters:

And in the Zohar (Parsha Nasso):
"Then the Angel of Death appears (to the dying person in a spiritual vision), it descends and stands at his feet with a sharp sword in his hand. The person lifts his eyes and sees the house walls radiant with fire. At the same time, he sees him, full of eyes, dressed in burning fire in front of him...and the length of his body is from one end of the world to the other..."

Interestingly, there are also two instances for Samael out of order in the Tanach (Bible) which RELATE TO CRUELTY.

In Isaiah 13:18
"With their bows [and arrows] they will kill the young men.
They will show no mercy to babies and take no pity on children" (Isaiah 13:18)
in the words "no pity on children":
(Samael) סמאל Last Letters:

The second out of order instance is in Lamentations/Eicha 2:17
"The L-ord has done what He planned;
He has fulfilled His word which He ordained long ago,
[and] has destroyed [Jerusalem] without mercy" (Eicha 2:17)
      "has destroyed [Jerusalem] without mercy":
(Samael) סמאל Last Letters:
This hints that the agent used to execute the decree of destruction was the angel of death, Samael.

Master of the Sitra Achra

Samael is also the master of the Sitra Achra (forces of evil). According to the Zohar, he has a female counterpart called Lilith. The two of them rule the dark realm of the Sitra Achra (other-side, forces of evil).

In the talmud: "Rabbi Chanina says: it is forbidden to sleep in a house alone; whoever does so is seized by Lilith" (Shabbat 151b)
(the forces of evil were much more openly manifest back then)

In Kabala, Samael and Lilith are the counterparts to the male and female aspects of the Divine (Shechinah). For G-d created parallel structures of good and evil in the creation.[4]

Interestingly, the two names Samael and Lilith are hinted in the Torah itself.

In Exodus/Shmot 28:32 regarding the "cloak" of the high priest:
"its opening (mouth) shall have a border (lip) around it, the work of a weaver.
It shall have [an opening] like the opening of a coat of armor;
it shall not be torn" (Exodus/Shemot 28:32)
(Samael)
כפילילית
(Lilith)
first letters Samael/Lilith separated by the holy name: כפי (Kapi)

Interestingly, the holy name "Kapi" appears in Shemot/Exodus 33:22:
"And it shall be that when My glory passes by, I will place you into the cleft of the rock,
and I will cover you with My hand (Kapi) until I have passed by" (Exodus/Shemot 28:32)

Rashi there comments cryptically: "and I will cover you with My hand (Kapi)"From here [we understand] that power was given to destructive forces to destroy (Num. Rabbah 14:19).

For when the holy name "kapi"[1] is uncovered and removed from between the klipot (i.e. Samael and Lilith), their power to destroy is unleashed.

Interestingly, the Baal HaTurim comments on the above verse of the cloak:
Baal HaTurim - "its opening (mouth) shall have a border (lip) around it" - "the cloak atones for lashon hara (evil speech/slander). If one sinned by uttering evil speech, let him make a lip to his mouth, i.e. to refrain from evil speech and repent and this will atone for him". end quote.

Thus, it seems Lashon Hara (evil speech) unleashes the power of Samael and Lilith to prosecute and destroy (generally speaking, all sins give strength to them, but apparently, evil speech is especially potent).

Interestingly, Lilith's name appears in the torah ONE UNIQUE TIME IN ORDER in end letters[2] (first letters there are no instances in order) and it refers again to the cloak:
"And they made on the bottom hem of the cloak pomegranates of blue, purple, and finely twisted crimson wool;
And they made bells of pure gold and attached them around the hem between the pomegranates" (Shemot/Exodus 39:24)
Last Letters:
again regarding the cloak of the high priest
unique instance

According to the talmud (Zevachim 88b), the gold bells on the cloak of the high priest atoned for the sin of evil speech. As before, speaking with an evil tongue rouses Lilith to prosecute and unleash destruction. Measure for measure, she is granted permission to speak evil and prosecute.

Leviathan

In the book of Isaiah (27:1): "On that day, the L-ord shall bring judgment with His great and strong sword on leviathan the barlike serpent, and upon leviathan the crooked serpent..". According to the Kabalah, these two "leviathan" serpents are a reference to Samael and Lilith (Pardes Rimonim shaar temurot, Zohar 265a).

Interestingly, the word "Leviathan" appears one unique time in the Tanach/Bible in end letters (no instances in first letters), and it is again regarding the gold bells of the high priest:
"And on its bottom hem you shall make pomegranates of blue, purple, and crimson wool, on its bottom hem all around, and golden bells in their midst all around" (Exodus 28:33)
 לויתן = (leviathan)
again regarding the cloak of the high priest

As before, the leviathan serpent draws its power from evil speech. This was the job of the primordial serpent in the story of Adam and Eve who slandered G-d causing them to sin. Interestingly, the Hebrew word for slander appears one unique time in the Torah. In the story of Adam and Eve:

And G-d said, "Who told you that you are naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?" (Genesis 3:11)
 רכילות = (slander)
regarding Adam and Eve and the primordial serpent

Destroyer

According to the Talmud (Shabbat 55a), the "Angel of Death" has assistants such as the "destroying angel" (Mashchit). When unleashed, his nature is to strike down all whom he encounters (Exodus 12:23, see also: Samuel II 24:16, Isaiah 54:16, Chronicles I 21:15).

The "Mashchit" (Destroyer) appears in ONE UNIQUE INSTANCE in the entire Tanach (Bible) in end letters (no instances exist in first letters):

"I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth
so that you will be mute and unable to rebuke them, and not be to them a rebuker for they are a rebellious house" (Ezekiel 3:26)
 משחית = (destroyer)
after the words "I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be mute and [there will] not be":
משחית (the Destroyer) LAST Letters:
unique instance in the entire Tanach (bible)

As if to say: "I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be mute and there will not be [the Destroyer]".

וּלְשֽׁוֹנְךָ֙ אַדְבִּ֣יק אֶל־חִכֶּ֔ךָ וְנֶֽאֱלַ֔מְתָּ וְלֹא־תִֽהְיֶ֥ה [משחית ]

As before, evil speech unleashes the power of the Sitra Achra to prosecute and destroy. And in the Talmud: "what should a person's occupation be in this world? He should render himself as a mute" (Chulin 89a)[3].

Thus, if a person doesn't have anything good to say, best to guard one's tongue. This is especially so when giving rebuke[5]. For rebuking someone who will not listen only makes him more rebellious (as in the above verse).

Let us look at some more examples...

Handwashing

Interestingly, in the Talmud:
"Why is mayim acharonim (handwashing at the end of the meal) obligatory? This is due to Sodom salt, which blinds the eyes" (Eiruvin 17b)

Interestingly, the name of the king of Sodom was "Berah" (Gen.14:2) which means Beit-Rah, i.e. "2x evil" as Rashi brings the Midrash there: "he was evil to Heaven and evil to people".

The name of the evil inclination is also "evil" (Sukkah 52a). Thus, the king of Sodom has the same name as the "Evil Inclination" who is Samael.

Interestingly, the name Samael is hinted in the verse speaking of the king of Sodom:
"And the king of Sodom came out toward him, after his return from smiting Chedorlaomer
and the kings who were with him" (Gen.14:17)

in the words "And the king of Sodom came out toward him after":
סמאל (Samael) FIRST Letters:
As before, the Mayim Acharonim (handwashing after a meal) is to "remove the Sodom salt from the fingers which blinds the eyes". This fits nicely with the view of the Kabalists that the Mayim Acharonim is in order to remove the Sitra Achra from the table (Arizal, Shaar Mitzvot, parsha Eikev) and as before the Sitra Achra blinds the eyes from good and evil. Thus, the Kabalistic interpretation is in line with the plain meaning.

Bribe Blinds the Eyes

Interestingly, in the verse:
"And to Sarah he said, 'Behold I have given a thousand pieces of silver to your brother;
behold it is to you a covering of the eyes for all who are with you'"
 (Gen.20:16)
a seven letter skip from "covering of the eyes"
(Samael)
 סמאל
A seven letter skip is in the secret of the 7 Sefirot of Tumah. The reason it is hinted in a verse speaking on money which "covers the eyes" is because "a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise" (Devarim 16:19). For one of the primary ways the Yetzer Hara entices people is through desire for money. Through this lust, he blinds the eyes of men and places them on incessant labor throughout their lives (see Path of the Just ch.5) (note this is the only such 7 letter skip in the torah).

Interestingly, at the end of the creation account (Genesis 1:31), "G-d sees that everything He had made was VERY GOOD". According to the Midrash (Yalkut Shimoni), "good" refers to the "Angel of Life", while "VERY GOOD" refers to the "ANGEL OF DEATH".

The plain meaning is that death makes a person think about his purpose in this world. This Midrash also hints to the secret to happiness in life. When a person is satisfied with the "GOOD" he has - this is the angel of life. But if he always seeks the "VERY GOOD", i.e. more money, more pleasures, etc. etc. this is not life but death (R.Yitzchak Sorotzkin). He is then a slave of Samael and the endless rat race for more money, more honor, more power, etc. etc.

King Sichon

The name Samael also appears in a four letter skip in the Torah regarding the Emorite king Sichon:
"Israel sent messengers to Sihon the king of the Emorites, saying" (Bamidbar/Numbers 21:21)
וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מַלְאָכִ֔ים אֶל סִיחֹ֥ן מֶֽלֶךְ הָֽאֱמֹרִ֖י לֵאמֹֽר
סמאל= four letter skip

And again a 3 letter skip backwards from the same exact letter also gives Samael.
"Israel sent messengers to Sihon the king of the Amorites, saying" (Bamidbar/Numbers 21:21)
וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מַלְאָכִ֔ים אֶלסִיחֹ֥ן מֶֽלֶךְ הָֽאֱמֹרִ֖י לֵאמֹֽר
סמאל= three letter skip backwards

And yet again a third time from the exact same letter out of order:
"Israel sent messengers to Sihon the king of the Amorites, saying" (Bamidbar/Numbers 21:21)
וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מַלְאָכִ֔י ם אֶל סִיחֹ֥ן מֶֽלֶךְ־הָֽאֱמֹרִ֖י לֵאמֹֽר
סמאל= consecutive letters

In the book Meorei Ohr (Maharam Paparush, maarechet samech): "Sichon is called 'Samael'..".

Likewise, the Talmud in Bava Batra 78b expounds Sichon to be alluding to the Yetzer Hara (evil inclination), namely, the word "Sichon" hints to the enticement of being drawn after "Sicha Naeh" (useless chatter instead of torah study). There it also refers to not considering the great "Cheshbono Shel Olam" (accounting of the world), namely, the loss of a mitzvah against its rewards and the loss of a sin against its reward (see there). Indeed, most people go through life without stopping to consider why they are here and what is their final end.

And in the Path of the Just (ch.3), this exact talmud source is brought:
Our sages of blessed memory taught us explicitly the need for this accounting as they said (Bava Batra 78b): " 'therefore the rulers said, let us enter into an accounting' (Numbers 21:27). Therefore the rulers - of their [evil] inclinations said come and consider the accounting of the world - the loss incurred by doing a mitzva against the gain earned through it, and the gain obtained by doing a sin against the loss incurred... For they already experienced, saw and learned, that THIS ALONE is the true path leading a man to the good which he seeks, and that there is none other besides this. (see there)

As before, Samael blinds the eyes making good appear evil and vice versa. He also instils an additional type of blindness, namely, to not FEEL what one knows to be true. Even if one knows good and evil, but the knowledge stays dry in the intellect and does not reach the eyes of the heart. Thus, it won't affect him in the least. The solution to this is to vividly review the great "accounting of the world" frequently until one feels it and sees its truth in his heart - only then will it begin to affect him.

Cloak of High Priest and Tzitzit

As mentioned above, the verse which speaks of the Me'il (cloak) of the High Priest has the name of Samael and Lilith together. This is because the Me'il (cloak) of the High Priest had the power to disperse the Sitra Achra and cause separation between them (Midrash Pliah in name of Korban Ani).

In the Tikunei Zohar (Tikun 10), the Tzitzit are compared to the Me'il. For the Tzitzit also serve to protect their wearer from the Sitra Achra.

The Arizal writes in Shaar Ruach Hakodesh (Tikun 14) that the Tzitzit also serve to shield from the Sitra Achra. For the word "Knaf" which refers to the Tzitzit has the same Gematria as Kaas (anger). It is known that anger is the enclothing of the Sitra Achra in a man. as written in the Zohar (Tetzave 182a) and likewise in the Talmud (Shab.105): "what is the 'strange god' in the body of man?.." (see there) When a person gets angry, the Sitra Achra possesses him and part of his intellectual soul leaves him. This is why his thinking is impaired then and he is capable of great destruction (the degree of possession is according to the intensity of anger).

Sadness and Joy

As known, one of the main ways the Yetzer entices a person is through sadness. When a person feels down and dejected, he becomes a customer of the Yetzer and his cheap thrills (R.Avigdor Miller zt'l). Thus, one needs to work on serving G-d with joy and be especially careful when he feels down. This is hinted in the verse:

"And no man shall be in the Tabernacle when the high priest goes in to make atonement in the Holy Place [within the veil], until he comes out, so that he may make atonement for himself, for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel" (Vayikra/Levit.16:17)

בלב עצוב (with a Sad Heart) FIRST Letters:
unique instance in the entire Tanach (bible)

As if to say: "And no man shall be in the Tabernacle [with a sad heart]".

It seems this was hinted on the Yom Kippur service, since even then when one is fasting, confessing, and repenting on his sins, and there is heavy-headedness, nevertheless, it should all be with joy in the heart.

Interestingly, when Avraham was doing kindness to wayfarers despite his being in pain from the circumcision, it is written:
"And Abraham hastened to the tent to Sarah, and he said,
'Hasten three seah of meal [and] fine flour;
knead and make cakes'" (Gen. 18:6)
Last Letters:

For he was joyous to do the will of his Maker (Rabeinu Efraim, quoted by Chida in Nachal Kedumim).

According to Rabbi Mendel Weinbach zt'l:
"The Imerei Tal brings the Zohar of how important it is to learn torah b'simcha (with joy). the yetzer tov (good inclination) and yetzer hara (evil inclination) are not static forces. They're capable of growing in power. It all depends whether you do a mitzva b'simcha (with joy) and thus increase the power of the yetzer tov (good inclination) or ch''v find diversions of the yetzer hara and do that b'simcha (with joy) and give him power" - from ohr.edu/2154

Interestingly, the GEMATRIA (numerical value) of Samael + Lilith = 131 + 480 = 611 = TORAH.
Gematria of Samael + Lilith = Torah
תורה לילית סמאל
40062005 30103010400 6040130
(Torah) 611=(Lilith) 480+(Samael) 131

This hints that the only way to defeat them is through torah, as our sages bring down: "[G-d said:] 'I have created the evil inclination, and I have created the Torah as its antidote'" (Kidushin 30b). For "the light in it brings them back to the good" (Eicha Raba 2), i.e. heals and illuminates the eyes. As known, the less torah a person has, the more he is completely blind to the true path.

Once a person's eyes are illuminated and he can see the snares of Samael the serpent - "TORAH BRINGS TO WATCHFULNESS" (Path of the Just there quoting the Talmud in Avodah Zara 20b).

Namely, to watch oneself constantly, before doing or saying anything to ask oneself: "Is this the advice of the evil inclination (Samael)? Is it in line with the Torah?" This is called "WATCHFULNESS" (Zehirut).

Interestingly, the Hebrew word for "Watchfulness" (Zehirut) appears ONE UNIQUE time in the entire Tanach (Bible, First Letters, there are zero instances for end letters).

In the book of Genesis regarding the PRIMORDIAL SERPENT which symbolizes the evil inclination:
"And I will put enmity between you (the serpent) and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he will crush your head, and you will bite his heel " (Genesis 3:15)

(Watchfulness) FIRST Letters:
unique instance in the entire Tanach (bible)

As if to say: "[Watchfulness of] your heel (Eikev)".

For as is known from parsha Eikev (Deut.7:12, see Rashi there), the heel refers to the small day to day mitzvot which everyone tramples with their heels. This is where Samael lurks in ambush to bite a man's heel and make him stumble. He waits and slithers out from his place in the darkness. But when a man considers his ways, he disappears back into the shadows again.

The Shofar

This is the purpose for blowing the SHOFAR (ram's horn) on Rosh Hashanah - to awaken a person from the spiritual slumber induced by Samael and urge him to consider his ways. Interestingly, the word "Shofar" appears one unique time in first letters (no instances in end letters).
"there is no Satan nor evil occurrence"

Interestingly, the word Teshuva (repentance) appears one unique time in the Tanach (Bible) in first letters (no instances in last letters). In the book of Yirmiyahu (Jeremiah):
"blow the Shofar in Tekoa and raise a signal over Beth Haccerem;
For evil is visible out of the north, and great destruction" (Jeremiah 6:1)

One also needs to go against his natural selfishness by working on acts of kindness, the opposite of the trait of the king of Sodom who instituted laws against kindness (Midrash) and was the antagonists of Abraham, the pillar of kindliness.

"Love your fellow as yourself"(Lev.19:18) - this is the fundamental principle of the Torah (Talmud Yerushalmi, Nedarim 30b). Furthermore, it is the yesod (foundation) of the Torah upon which the entire Torah is based. The commandment of comforting mourners, visiting the sick, bringing joy to a groom and bride, don't slander, don't steal, don't hate, etc. etc. are all aspects of the mitzvah to love your fellow (R.Yosef Braun).

most findings in this section on the first/end letters are from the book Niflaot MiToratecha, by R.Aharon Aronovski

We end off with a hint from Moshe Rabeinu (Moses):
"only be certain to obey the voice of the L-ORD your G-d, carefully observe
all of these commands that I am commanding to you today" (Devarim/Deuteronomy 15:5)

(Bereisheit)

in the words "only be certain to obey the voice of the L-ORD":
(Bereisheit) בראשית FIRST Letters:

Notice the first letters spell "Bereisheit" (in the beginning) out of order. There are no instances in order in the entire Tanach (Bible) except for Genesis 1:1 itself.

As before, the opening word "Bereisheit" contains the entire Torah in summary form.

Similarly, Shlomo (Solomon), the man of Chochma (wisdom) ended off: "The end of the matter, everything having been heard, fear G-d and keep His commandments, for this is all of man" (Kohelet/Ecclesiastes 12:13).

Interestingly, as before the opening letter Beit is a summary of the whole Torah. The Top line represents Heaven (the spiritual) while the bottom line represents Earth (physical). The connecting line is man's job to connect the two.

Notice the connecting LINE is on the RIGHT SIDE which represents the side of holiness. Through Torah which was given on the right, man joins and brings down holiness from above to below. All this is from the right side for there is the good inclination in man's heart. But from the LEFT SIDE where the evil inclination resides, there is no connecting line on the Beit. This hints man should not join the left side. For by doing bad things, man joins and brings down impure forces thereby granting strength to Samael to blind him and conquer his pure soul. Indeed the word Samael is very related to the word left (Semol) in Hebrew (R.Moshe Shapiro, quoting Siach Yitzchak 2 from Torah HaGra).

"Strengthen yourselves, and He will give your heart courage, all who hope to G-d" (Tehilim/Psalms 31:25)

Gematria in The Bible

Gematria provides convincing evidence of the Bible's divine authorship - just the first seven words of the Hebrew Bible are all it takes to affirm that God is the Creator. In the Jewish tradition, the letters of the Hebrew alphabet are the building blocks of creation, and the Torah is the blueprint. The gematria within the Bible supports this view.

Much has been spoken about the richness of the biblical text, but less well known is the numerical patterns to be found within the text. Gematria is a system of applying numerical value to a word or phrase, and applies to both the Hebrew and Greek alphabets. Each letter has a numerical value, and the system is perfectly logical - the first ten letters of the alphabet are assigned numbers one through ten, the numbers then increment by tens to one hundred and then by hundreds. So for the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, the gematria values are :
Hebrew alphabet standard gematria values
The letters of the Hebrew alphabet, with their standard gematria values.
For those letters with two entries, the lower characters are used at the end of a word. The values shown are used in what is termed standard gematria. Another method, termed ordinal gematria, assigns a number equal to a letter's place in the alphabet, one through twenty-two.

For example, consider the word "wisdom" or chokmah in Hebrew (remember that Hebrew script is read from right to left) :
hebrew chockmah wisdom gematria
It so happens that this Hebrew word, and these numbers will prove crucial to what follows. Numbers 37 and 73 should not be considered ordinary by any means.

  • 37 and 73 are reflective numbers
  • 37 and 73 are the 12th and 21st prime numbers respectively
  • 12 and 21 are reflective numbers
  • 12² (144) and 21² (441) are also reflective numbers
  • 73 is the 37th odd number
  • human body temperature = 37 degrees Celsius

Both 37 and 73 are star numbers, and 37 is also a hexagonal number. The gematria for "Israel" (ישראל) is 541 which is also a star number. The association between the Creator and the "Star of David" should be obvious from the following diagram :
Picture
The relationship between these two numbers can be appreciated when it can be seen that the 37 star and the 37 hexagon both fit neatly inside the 73 star.

Genesis 1:1

The first verse of the Hebrew Bible consists of just 7 words and 28 letters, but is a powerful and precise account of the creation of the universe. Much has been done to reveal the remarkable gematria of this famous verse by researcher Vernon Jenkins.
Genesis 1:1 standard gematria
These words from Genesis 1:1 sum to 2701, which is 73 x 37 and the 73rd triangular number. Note that the gematria values of the first letter of each of these seven words sum to 22:

  • bet=2, bet=2, aleph=1, aleph=1, hey=5, vav=6, hey=5
  • 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 5 + 6 + 5 = 22, the number of letters in the Hebrew alphabet

Also note the gematria values of the first three words, which when strung together are 91320386 (Bereshith bara Elohim). The first occurrence of 91320386 in pi is followed by the three digits 232. In the Bible's third verse, God said, Let there be light. The gematria value of יהי אור ("Let there be light") is 232.
Picture
In the Zohar, these first three words are deeply mysterious. Bereshith represents the primordial mystery, Bararepresents the mysterious source from which the whole world expanded, and Elohim represents the force which sustains all below [Bereshith 15 b]. It is written: And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (Dan 12:3). There was indeed a brightness, which in Hebrew is זהר (Zohar). The Most Mysterious struck its void, and caused this point to shine. [Bereshith 15a].

  • the gematria value of זהר(Zohar, meaning "brightness") is 212
  • the first occurrence of 212 in pi is preceded by 611, the gematria value of תורה (Torah)
  • the gematria value of יהי אור ("Let there be light") from Gen 1:3 is 232
  • the gematria value of כזהר ("as the brightness") from Dan 12:3 has a gematria value of 232
  • the word "brightness" appears 22 times in the Bible (KJV)

The Zohar says: The Most Mysterious Power remained wholly unknowable until from the force of the strokes there shone forth a supernal and mysterious point. Beyond that point there is no knowable, and therefore it is called Reshith(beginning), the creative utterance which is the starting-point of all. [Bereshith 15 a].

  • The phrase והמשכלים יזהרו כזהר ("And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness") has a gematria value of 911
  • the gematria value of ראשית (Reshith) is 911

There is a remarkable number sequence which appears early within the decimal digits of e. The first words spoken by Elohim were Let there be light in Gen 1:3.

  • Gen 1:3 has a gematria value of 813
  • Let there be light has a gematria value of 232
  • Elohim has a gematria value of 86

Beginning from position 159 in e, the first occurrences of 813, 232 and 86 appear consecutively:
Picture
  • the 159th prime number is 937, which is the 13th star number
  • there are 159 Hebrew words in the first 13 verses in the Torah
  • the first 13 Bible verses describe the first 3 days of creation
  • up to and including Gen 3:13, there are 937 Hebrew words in the Torah

Triangle Numbers

Triangular number values

Other interesting triangular Bible numbers include :

153 -  the number of fishes caught in John 21:1-14

276 -  the number of souls saved from the storm in Acts 27:14-44

666 -  the number of a man from Revelation 13:18

703 -  the gematria value for "and the earth" (407 + 296) from                     Genesis 1:1

The 2701 triangle can be divided into four separate triangles in the form 3A + B = 2701, where A = 666 and B = 703.
Picture
Picture
Genesis 1:1 gematria = 73 x 37 = 2701
perimeter = 216 = 6 x 6 x 6
3 x 666 = 1998 (In the beginning God created the heaven...)
1998 + 703 = 2701
  • 2701² = 7,295,401
  • 7 + 295 + 401 = 703
  • 703² = 494,209
  • 494 + 209 = 703

Also note that 2701 = 26² + 45². The gematria values of יהוה(YHWH) and Adam (אדם) are 26 and 45 respectively. The gematria value of  Eve (in Hebrew Chavah or חוה) is 19, which is 45 - 26.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them"  Gen 1:27

John 1 : 1

Gen 1:1 and John 1:1  are the 1st and 26,046th verses in the Bible (KJV).

  • 26,046 - 1 = 26,045

The first occurrence of 26045 in pi begins from position 18,648.

  • 18 + 648 = 666

εν  αρχηι  ην  ο  λογος  και  ο  λογος  ην  προς  τον  θεον  και  θεος  ην  ο  λογος
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
               55       719        58    70    373          31      70    373        58       450       420       134      31      284      58    70      373   =   3627

In Greek isopsephia, this verse has a value of 3627. Initially, this number seems unremarkable. Not triangular, not a star number, not  divisible by 37. But 3627 forms a trapezium, which fits perfectly with the Genesis triangle to form the 112th triangle. So 2701 + 3627 = 6328. The number of rows (112) is also the gematria value for The LORD God -YHWH Elohim ( יהוה אלהים).

  • the tradition is that there are 613 commandments in the Torah.
  • 613 is the 112th prime number

The complete creation triangle then looks like this :

Picture
Gen 1:1 (2701) + John 1:1 (3627) = 112th Triangle (6328).

Gen 1:1 has 7 Hebrew words and 28 letters, and John 1:1 has 17 Greek words and 52 letters.

  • (7 x 28) + (17 x 52) = 1080

The prophet Isaiah recognized that God doesn't need sacrifice or ritual observance, and that the Temple exists for the sake of humanity, not for the benefit of God.

"Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?" Isa 66:1 (also see 1 Ki 27:8)

The phrase "The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool" (השמים כסאי והארץ הדם רגלי) has a gematria value of 1080. This verse was reprised in the Acts of the Apostles (Act 7:49). These two similar passages are verse numbers 18,924 and 27,166 in the Bible (KJV).

  • 27166 - 18924 = 8242

The first occurrence of 8242 in pi begins from position 30,328.

  • 30 + 328 = 358, the gematria value of משיח (Moshiach, meaning "Messiah")

In Balaam's second oracle (Num 23:11-24) Balak erred in thinking that more sacrifices were required in order to obtain God's favor. His underestimation of God's constancy, and particularly his devotion to Israel, was mocked by the narrator:

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"Num 23:19

The term בן אדם (ben Adam, meaning "son of man") has a gematria value of 97. The first occurrence of 97 in pi is preceded by the three digits 358, the gematria value of משיח (Moshiach).

The gematria values of Gen 1:1and Joh 1:1 are 2701 and 3627 respectively. The first occurrence of 27013627 in both e and phi (the golden ratio) are preceded by the same four digits:

Paul's letter to the Romans addresses the place of Israel in God's overall purpose. He makes a distinction between Abraham's mere natural posterity and his spiritual children:

"Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:" Rom 9:6
ουχ οιον δε οτι εκπεπτωκεν ο λογος του θεου ου γαρ παντες οι εξ ισραηλ ουτοι ισραηλ

The term ("the word of God") has a gematria value of 1697, which is the 265th prime number. The first occurrence of 265 in pi is followed by the three digits 358, the gematria value of משיח (Moshiach).

The first occurrence of 27013627 in pi begins from position 62,418,439.

  • 62 + 418 + 439 = 919, the gematria value of μελχισεδεκ (Melchisedec)

For more on Melchizedek/Melchisedec, see The Stars of Heaven.

  • 2701 x 888 = 2,398,488
  • 2 + 398 + 488 = 888
  • 2701 x 1480 = 3,997,480
  • 3 + 997 + 480 = 1480

2 x 3 x 6 x 8 = 288. The first occurrence of 2368 in pi is followed by 288. The totient of 888 (Jesus) is 288.

Math in The Bible

Another remarkable proof from the gematria of Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1 is the discovery of the values of key mathematical constants to a high degree of accuracy. The calculation of transcendental numbers π and e, along with the fine structure constant, also known as alpha (α) attest to the authenticity of the text. The identical method to obtain π and e from separate creation accounts from different covenants is evidence of the oneness of the Bible, and the hand of the Creator in its compilation.

The accuracy of π calculated from the book of Genesis remained unsurpassed for over 1,700 years from the giving of the Torah to Moses in 1313 BCE. Similarly, the accuracy of  e from the book of John (written in 96 CE) wasn't improved for over 1,600 years.

For the full π formula, copy and paste into a spreadsheet program:
=(28*2*200*1*300*10*400*2*200*1*1*30*5*10*40*1*400*5*300*40*10*40*6*1*400*5*1*200*90)/(7*913*203*86*401*395*407*296)

As remarkable as is the estimate of 3.14155 for pi from the first verse in the Bible, even more amazing is the same six digits can be construed from the first verse of the New Testament (Mat 1:1). In this verse, the first word βιβλος (Biblos) meaning "The book" has a numerical value of 314. Beginning from position 314 in pi are the three digits 155 to complete the sextuple.

The fine structure constant (alpha) is much better known by it's inverse, which is essentially 137 (see The Mysterious 137).

What are the odds?
Using the same methodology, πand are calculated to five significant figures from the first verses in the Books of Genesis and John respectively. The decimal system has ten digits, so the probability of matching a single digit is 1/10, except the first digit which can't be zero. Extrapolating, the probability of matching five digits becomes 1/9 x 1/10 x 1/10 x 1/10 x 1/10, or 1/90,000 (one chance in ninety thousand). The probability of calculating π and from these two "In the beginning" verses, to five significant figures and using the same methodology, therefore becomes 1/900,000 x 1/90,000 or one in 8.1 billion! The likelihood of this being purely random chance therefore becomes almost ridiculous.

Skeptics may rightly claim that the sample should include the first verses from all the books in the New Testament, not just John.  There are 27 books in the NT, so the probability then becomes 1 chance in 300 million.

But wait, I hear you say, it should apply to any verse from the New Testament, not just the opening verses. There are 7,957 verses in the New Testament, so after applying this stringent condition the probability becomes 1 chance in 1.02 million. Any way you cut it, the odds are astronomical!

Relying entirely on statistical  probabilities is controversial, however the hypothesis in this case is supported by both the gematria and the complementary geometry between Gen 1:1 and John 1:1. So not reliant on probabilities alone.

According to a Midrash, the Torah was created prior to the creation of the world, and was used as the blueprint for Creation. The teachings of the Torah were given by God to Moses in 1313 BCE. The majority of Biblical scholars believe that the written books were compiled between approximately 600 BCE and 400 BCE. In any event, the accuracy of the π approximation revealed in the first verse of the Book of Genesis remained unsurpassed for millennia.
The very first reference to π is to be found in a 2000 BCE clay tablet cuneiform script held at the British Museum. It's value, based on an octagon,  was estimated as 256/81 or 3.1605.

  • the words "Jesus" and "Christ" appear together in 256 Bible verses (KJV)
  • the phrase "Lord Jesus Christ" appears in 81 Bible verses (KJV)

This remained the best approximation until the time of Archimedes (287-212 BCE), who used a 92 sided polygon to estimate 3 10/71 < π < 3 1/7, giving an average value of  3.14185.

The accuracy of Archimedes calculation remained unsurpassed for 500 years, until Chinese mathematician Liu Hui (c. 225 CE) used a 192 sided polygon to improve the approximation to 3.1416.
Picture
The Rhind Papyrus held by the British Museum, dating from c 1650 BCE, which includes an approximation for π (3.1605) based on the Babylonian clay tablet from c 2000 BCE.
Another Chinese national, Zu Chongzhi (429-500 CE), was the first mathematician to surpass the accuracy of the Genesis formula when he used a 24,576 sided polygon to estimate π  as being between 3.1415926 and 3.1415927. Zu proposed a fractional estimate of 355/113 which has become known as Zu's Ratio. It is now known that this is the most accurate fractional approximation of  π  possible using a denominator less than 16,604. This was an incredible achievement unmatched by European, Indian or Middle Eastern mathematicians for about 1,000 years!

The accuracy to 7 decimal places established by Zu Chongzhi was finally surpassed by Persian mathematician Jamshīd al-Kāshīin 1400 CE, who extended the accuracy to 16 decimal places, which became the benchmark for a further 200 years.

Consider the 96, 192 and 24,576 sided polygons used by Archimedes, Liu Hui and Zu Chongzhi in their efforts to approximate the value of π. These numbers share a striking pattern in binary notation:

  • the totient of 24576 = 8192 = 2¹³
  • 8192 = 10000000000000 in binary (13 zeroes)

The gospels are known to have been written during the first century CE, well before the first vague reference to the concept of the irrational number e in an appendix to John Napier's work on logarithms in 1618 (a nod to the golden ratio, which is 1.618). The e notation made its first appearance in a letter Eulerwrote in 1731. He made various discoveries regarding e in the following years, but it was not until 1748 when he published Introductio in Analysin infinitorum that he gave a full treatment of the ideas surrounding e. He showed that e= 1 + 1/1! + 1/2! + 1/3! + ...  and that eis the limit of (1 + 1/n)n as n tends to infinity. Euler gave an approximation for e to 18 decimal places, e = 2.718281828459045235. The accuracy of the value of eobtained from the John 1:1calculation wasn't surpassed for over 1,600 years! For a full account of the number e see here.

LORD, LORD, LORD

The gematria values of Gen 1:1and John 1:1 are both the product of reversed numbers.

The LORD is clearly a mathematician! But what if we were to employ the same device? The gematria value of יהוה (YHWH, translated as "LORD") is 26:

  • 26 x 62 = 1612

The first occurrence of 1612 in phi (the golden ratio) is followed by the six digits 26 26 26 ("LORD, LORD, LORD"). The preceding three digits are 611, the gematria value of תורה (Torah).

The first occurrence of 26 in pi begins from position 6:

The first 5 decimal digits of pi are 14159, the 1667th prime number. The first occurrence of 1667 in pi is preceded by the three digits 555.

  • the word "Christ" appears 555 times in the Bible (KJV)
Picture
The first occurrence of 26 in pi begins from position 6. Six days before passover (on the eve of his triumphal return to Jerusalem), Jesus came to Bethany, where he had raised Lazarus from the dead. There they made him a supper. Martha and Mary were the sisters of Lazarus; Martha served, and Mary annointed the feet of Jesus with ointment (Joh 12:1-3).

  • the three digits following 1667 are 302
  • the gematria values of Martha (Μαρθα) and Mary (Μαρια) sum to 302

The names "Martha" and "Mary"appear together in 3 Bible verses(KJV). The first 3 occurrence of 26 in pi ("LORD, LORD, LORD") begin from positions 6, 21 and 275.

  • 6 + 21 + 275 = 302

The name "Martha" appears in 12 Bible verses (KJV), so it's interesting to note that the first 12 digits of pi (which are centered around 26) is a prime number!
141592653589 is a prime number
  • beginning from position 26 in pi are the three digits 832, the gematria value of ארץ ישראל (Eretz Yisrael, meaning "the land of Israel")
  • beginning from position 26 in phi are the three digits 343, the gematria value of ויאמר אלהים ("And God said")
  • beginning from position 26 in e are the four digits 7135

The first has great significance. The term "the land of Israel"appears 31 times in the Bible (KJV). The word "Israel" means God (El) prevails. The gematria value of אל (El) is 31.

The second has great significance. The term "And God said" are the opening words in 26 Bible verses (KJV). The term ויאמר אלהים ("And God said") appears 26 times in the Tanakh.

But the third? Many of the Jews knew Jesus was at Bethany, at the house of Martha and Mary. They came not just for Jesus' sake, but that they may also see Lazarus, who was raised from the dead. This prompted the chief priests to consider killing Lazarus (Joh 12:9-10).

"Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus."
 Joh 12:11

The El (God) in Israel has a gematria value of 31. Beginning from position 31 in pi are the two digits 50. The digits surrounding 26 in the prime number 141592653589 sum to 50.

The following three digits are 288, which is the totient of 888, the gematria value of Ιησους (Jesus). The 31st prime number is 127, and its first occurrence in pi is followed by 3724.

  • 37 x 24 = 888

The numeric string 7135, which begins from position 26 in e, is followed by the four digits 2662, which is where we began this exercise. Believe on Jesus. The name "Jesus" appears 26 times in Bible verses which also include the word "believe" (KJV).

Fire and Snow

The Talmud discusses the authorship of all the books of the Hebrew Bible and assigns all but the last eight verses of Deuteronomy (which describe the death of Moses), to Moses himself. The 8th  of the 13 Principles of Faith established by Maimonides states "The Torah that we have today is the one dictated to Moses by God"

"Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word:" Psa 148:8
אש  וברד  שלג  וקיטור  רוח  סערה  עשה  דברו
                                        212       375       335      214       331        333      212     301   =   2313

The reference to fire and snow from Psalm 148:8 is reminiscent of two other Bible verses:

"I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels asburning fire."  Dan 7:9

"His head and hishairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;"  Rev 1:14

The words "fire" and "snow" appear together in only these three verses in the Bible. The message they inspire is unmistakable:

  • Psa 148:8Dan 7:9 and Rev 1:14 gives (148 x 8) x (7 x 9) x (1 x 14) = 1044288
  • 1044288 = 441 x 2368
  • the Hebrew word for "truth" (אמת ) has a gematria value of 441
  • Ιησους Χριστος ("Jesus Christ") has an isopsephia value of 2368
  • the Greek word for "truth" (αληθεια) has a gematria value of 64
  • 2368 = 37 x 64

The gematria of the words for "truth" in Hebrew and Greek are both square numbers:

  • 21² = 441 = אמת (emeth) meaning "truth"
  • 8² = 64 = αληθεια (aletheia) meaning "truth"
  • 8 and 21 are both Fibonacci numbers
  • 21 - 8 = 13
  • 441 - 64 = 377 (the 13th Fibonacci number)
Picture
The area shaded blue = 377, which is the 13th Fibonacci Number.

The gematria value of the Bible's 3rd verse is 813, when on the first day God said, Let there be light: and there was light (Gen 1:3).

  • the gematria value of רבע (raba, meaning "square") = 272
  • the word "light" appears 272 times in the Bible (KJV)
  • the totient of 813 = 540
  • the totient of 541 (Israel) = 540
  • 813 - 541 = 272

Fire and snow were spectacularly juxtaposed during the recent Holuhraun lava flow in Iceland (Aug 31, 2014 - Feb 27, 2015). Covering an area (85 km²) larger than the island of Manhattan (59 km²), this was the largest lava flow since the Laki event during the Year of Awe in 1783. The Holuhraun eruption lasted 181 days. In the book of Exodus (Exo 3:12), God said to Moses "I will be with thee", which in the original Hebrew has a gematria value of 181. The verb be (ehyeh) anticipates the etymology of the divine name in verse 14.

"And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses,I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." Exo 3:12-14

  • the Holuhraun eruption lasted 181 days
  • "I will be with thee" (כי אהיה עמך) has a gematria value of 181
  • "I AM THAT I AM" (אהיה אשר אהיה) has a gematria value of 543 = 3 x 181

Of all the names of God, the most mysterious is the forty-two letter name. One of the theories of its origin is the doubling of the gematria value of "I AM" (אהיה), or 21 x 2 = 42.

  • 181 is the 42nd prime and 6th star number

The first occurrence of 42 in pi is preceded by the three digits 253.

  • 253 is the 7th star number
  • God appeared to Moses in a flame of fire (Exo 3:2)
  • the term "flame of fire" appears 7 times in the Bible (KJV)

Considering the importance of number 37 to the numerical structure of scripture, it is interesting to note that the Hebrew word for lava (לבה) has a gematria value of 37. This helicopter flyover by a crew from RT makes for spectacular viewing of the Holuhraun (tr. "lava hole") eruption:

Proverbs 3:19 and 9:10

To go back to the beginning, let's revisit the word "wisdom". We have already seen that the gematria of the Hebrew Chokmah provided the numbers that spoke the universe into existence. The first word of the Torah "In the beginning [God created ...]," is translated into Aramaic as "With wisdom [God created...]". See here.

The word "wisdom" occurs in 222 Bible verses. Rep digits always attract attention (consider 666 and 888).
Picture

[JERUSALEM TARGUM: In wisdom (be-hukema) the Lord created. And the earth was vacancy and desolation, and solitary of the sons of men, and void of every animal; and the Spirit of mercies from before the Lord breathed upon the face of the waters.]

It seems justified to explore these wisdom verses further. Where better to look than the Book of Wisdom - Solomon's Book of Proverbs. The first verse relates to the beginning of the heaven and the earth, whilst the second relates to the beginning of wisdom itself. Each verse has 7 Hebrew words and 29 letters.

  • 7 x 29 = 203, the gematria value of ברא (Bara, meaning "created") from Gen 1:1

"The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens" Pro 3:19
יהוה בחכמה יסד ארץ כונן שמים בתבונה

  • gematria = 1447 + 2549 = 3996
  • 3996 = (6⁶ + 6⁷ + 6⁸ +6⁹) / (6*7*8*9)
  • 3996 = 3 x 1332 (Alpha Ω)

Jesus said he was the first and the last, the Alpha and the Omega (Rev 1:821:622:13). In the Nestle-Aland textform, it was written as Alpha and Ω (not Alpha and Omega or α and Ω. The way it was written is the only way a gematria value of 1332 could be achieved. Also note that the untranslated את from Genesis 1:1 is the equivalent Alpha and Ω ( א is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet and ת is the last).

3996 is 108 x 37, providing graphic evidence of this numbers significance. 108 is the number count of the perimeter of both the Israel star and the earth triangle from Genesis 1:1. Both are 37 rows deep. In number theory, the totient function or φ represents the number of integers < n which are co-prime with n. Interestingly, φ(37) = φ(108). This co-incidence is repeated in the gematria of the Genesis 1:1 triangle, where φ(1998) = φ(703).
Israel star and earth triangle gematria perimeter
The 541 star and the 703 triangle are both 37 rows deep, and each have a perimeter of 108.
  • 541 x 888 = 480,408
  • 480 + 408 = 888
  • 541 x 666 = 360,306
  • 360 + 306 = 666
  • 2701 x 541 = 1,461,241
  • 1 + 461 + 241 = 703
  • 541 x 703 = 380,323
  • 380 + 323 = 703

Whilst 3996 is not itself a star number, it embraces the "Star of Israel" in a graphic confirmation of the Bible's divine authorship. This parallels the phenomenon of John 1:1 providing a base for the Genesis 1:1 triangle.  541 + 3996 = 4537, which is the 28th star number. This index number is significant: The 541 star consist of overlapping 406 triangles, which is the 28th triangle number.

Note the numerical pattern of the perimeter of these diagrams :

  • Genesis triangle = 216 = 2 x 108
  • Wisdom star  = 324 = 3 x 108
  • tan (108˚) x tan (216˚) = -√5
  • tan (108˚) x tan (324˚) = √5
  • (√5 + 1) / 2  =  phi  (golden ratio)

  • tan (2701˚) = tan (541˚)
  • tan (3996˚) = tan (216˚)

As was the case with the Genesis triangle, the Wisdom star can also be segmented into its constituent parts.

Perimeter of each 1998 segment is 256, which is 2⁸ or ((2²)²)² The Hebrew plural noun דברים (words or spoken) has a gematria value of 256. The words Jesus and Christ appear together in 256 Bible verses. The average density of the sun / average density of the earth = 0.256

The Star of Esther

In 357 BCE, Esther managed to save the Jewish people from a massacre at the hands of the evil Haman. Their deliverance is celebrated annually during the feast of Purim. Esther, whose name means "star" (Strongs H635) had changed from her birth name Hadassah to hide her Jewish identity.

  • Esther (אסתר) has a gematria value of 661, which is the 11th star number
  • Israel (ישראל) has a gematria value of 541, which is the 10th star number
  • 11 x 10 = 110

Esther's Jewish name was Hadassah, which means "myrtle" (Strongs H1919). Hadassah (הדסה) has a gematria value of 74. The 74th prime number is 373, the gematria value of λογος ("Word") from Joh 1:1. The Word is identified with Jesus (Joh 1:14).

  • 888 (Jesus) - 541 (Israel) = 347

666

  • 666 = the sum of the squares of the first seven primes  (2² + 3² + 5² + 7² + 11² + 13² + 17² = 666)

The symbolism of the earth (Genesis triangle) and Israel (wisdom star) surrounded by the mysterious number of the beast from  Revelation 13:18 cannot be easily avoided. It is symbolic of "the great day of the LORD" spoken of by the Prophet.

"Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision : for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision."  Joel 3:14

Both the triangle and the star, however, offer a consistent message of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as John 1:1forms a foundation for the Genesis triangle, Psalms 107:20, which has a  gematria value of 2196, fits snugly around the wisdom star. So 4537 + 2196 = 6733 which is the 34th star number.

Blue surround gematria value 2196 (the gematria value of Psalm 107:20).
"He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions."   Psalms 107:20

So the Word was at the beginning as the foundation of creation, and will be at the end as the Saviour of His people (Alpha and Ω).

Tanakh Word Count

Thanks to the wonders of the electronic age, accurate data is now accessible which was formerly the domain of myth and speculation. The oldest complete Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) in existence is the one preserved at the National Library of Russia in Saint Petersburg, and thus called the Leningrad Codex. The Bibleworks software program makes this data accessible, and it is from this source that this data is presented.

The Leningrad Codex is dated 1008 CE, so at the time of writing is 1008 years old. Nice symmetry there.

There are 40,187 distinct words in the Tanakh. The first occurrence of the string 40187 in pi is preceded by the three digits 541.

The gematria value of Χριστος ("Christ") is 1480, and the 1480th prime number is 12,401. The first occurrence of 12401 in pi is followed by the four digits 8607. In the Gospel of Luke, a certain woman thought that merely touching Jesus' garment would be sufficient to make her whole. Sensing the transference of healing power, Jesus asked, Who touched my clothes?

"And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?" Luk 5:31

The gematria value of Χριστος ("Christ") is 1480, and the 1480th prime number is 12,401. The first occurrence of 12401 in pi alludes to the term "Hallelujah" in the Book of Psalms, which is usually a transliteration of two Hebrew words הללו (Halelu) and (Yah) meaning "Praise ye" and "the LORD". Only once in the Tanakh does is appear as a single word הללויה (Psa 106:1).

  • the first appearance of the two words הללויה-יה is in Psalm 111

  • 128 + 128 = 256
  • the words "Jesus" and "Christ" appear together in 256 Bible verses (KJV)

Jesus said he was the first and the last (Rev 1:8;17; 2:8; 22:13). The first and last words in the Bible are בראשית (Bereshiyth, meaning "In the beginning") and αμην ("Amen"), which have gematria values of 913 and 99 respectively.

  • 913 + 99 = 1012
  • the first occurrence of 12401 in phi begins from position 59,953

  • 111 + 777 = 888, the gematria value of ιησους ("Jesus")
Picture
The preceding three digits are 177.

The 121st triangle number is 7381. The first occurrence of 7381 in pi is preceded by the three digits 611, the gematria value of תורה (Torah). 1697 ("the word of God") is the 265th prime number. The 265th word in the Torah is כי ("that") when God saw that it was good (Gen 1:21). This is the fourth most frequently used word in the Tanakh, appearing a total of 4377 times. The first occurrence of 4377 in pi is followed by the four digits 7065, then 888 ("Jesus"):
Picture
"But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:" Rom 2:10

In this verse "every man" (παντι) has a gematria value of 441 ("truth").

4377 begins from position 14,290. According to the Gospel of Luke, Simeon was in Jerusalem, waiting for the consolation of Israel (Luk 2:25-26). Simeon called Jesus "a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel." (Luk 2:32).

  • the gematria of ישראל ("Israel") is 541, the 100th prime and 10th star number
  • the 541st triangle number is 146,611
  • the first occurrence of 146611 in pi is preceded by 888 ("Jesus")

To the astonishment of Joseph and Mary, Simeon continued:

"And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;" Luk 2:34
και ευλογησεν αυτους σιμεων και ειπε προς μαριαμ την μητερα αυτου ιδου ουτος κειται εις πτωσιν και αναστασιν πολλων εν τωι ισραηλ και εις σημειον αντιλεγομενον

Simeon said Jesus was a light. The term "rising again" (αναστασιν) has a gematria value of 813. On the first day of Creation God said, Let there be light (Gen 1:3), which verse has a gematria value of 813. The words ויאמר אלהים יהי אור ויהי אור וירא אלהים את האור כי טוב  ("And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good:") from Gen 1:3-4a have a gematria value of 1776, which is 2 x 888.

1697 ("the word of God") is followed in pi by the four digits 9200 (see above).

"Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready." Joh 7:6
λεγει ουν αυτοις ο ιησους ο καιρος ο εμος ουπω παρεστιν ο δε καιρος ο υμετερος παντοτε εστιν ετοιμος

The word "time" (καιρος) has a gematria value of 401, as does את (Aleph Tav), the first and last (see Rev 1:11;17, Rev 2:8Rev 22:13). The phrase "my time is not yet come" (ο καιρος ο εμος ουπω παρεστιν) has a gematria value of 2952. The first occurrence of 2952 in pi is preceded by the five digits 23144:
Picture
The 23,144th verse in the Bible (KJV) is the penultimate verse in the Tanakh:

"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:" Mal 4:5 verse #23,144 (KJV)

The great and dreadful day of the LORD is associated with the "travails of the Messiah" (Sanh. 118a). It is traditional in Jewish liturgy to conclude the public reading on this optimistic note, rather than with the threat contained in the final phrase of the Tanakh's last verse.

In English, we have alpha and numeric characters: a,b,c,d,e, etc., & 0,1,2,3,4, etc.  Both Greek and Hebrew have only one set of characters used for both words and numbers. When a word in Greek, for example, is written out, it has a mathematical value.  This value is called gematria.  The Greek word for Jesus (Ἰησοῦς) has a mathematical equivalent of 888. It works like this: iota, 10; eta, 8; sigma, 200; omicron, 70; upsilon, 400; sigma, 200. The sum of 10 + 8 + 200 + 70 + 400 + 200 is 888. There are many very interesting mathematical relationships when the gematria of words and sentences are examined.

Following are two tables that show both Greek and Hebrew gematria; that is, number-letter value equivalents.
